New gritting solution launched

VALE Engineering (York) Limited, a specialist manufacturer of spraying and gritting equipment to the municipal sector, has just launched a new tractor-towed salt spreader to complement its existing range.
The new salt spreader is designed for use with agricultural tractors; the Mammoth 5m cubed TS5000 has a capacity to carry seven tonnes of salt. The spreader utilises the company’s unique stainless steel 'pozi-feed' auger system, which gives positive salt feed to the spreading disc to reduce the chance of bridging inside the hopper.
The spreader chassis adopts the company philosophy of a belts and braces policy utilising a commercial high-speed axle with S-cam brakes, leaf spring suspension and super single tyres.
To accompany the range, Vale has also launched a universal snowplough which can be angled for mounting on the tractor front linkage.
James Wilson, MD of Vale, said: "This new spreader brings a cost effective alternative to HGV-type systems; a tractor has many uses throughout the year whereas a permanently mounted gritter only has one use. The trailed design doesn’t have the health and safety fallbacks of some of the demount gritter body systems. There is also a significant cost saving both in purchase price and machine service costs."
