IMPROVED braking, better suspension, an increased load capacity and for those that want it, a new paint scheme are all part and parcel of John Deere’s new look Gator XUV 855D 4x4 ATV.

Apart from the new black and olive green paintwork in addition to JD’s more familiar bright green and yellow, the liquid-cooled three-cylinder diesel engine now pushes out a genuine 25hp that equates to a real time, on-road 32mph for those who opt for the road legal, integrated rear lights versions.

Driven through John Deere’s proven dual-range constant velocity transmission, the electronically switchable on-demand traction system still located on the dash along with the familiar front and rear lockable diffs. In addition the new 855D comes with a slightly wider stance while the new fully enclosed clutch and drive train means the Gator can now safely wade through 22 inches of water.

Add into the equation new, more comfortable, higher backed bucket seating with more effective side bolsters or the option of bench, new double A-arm front and adjustable rear suspension that increases available suspension travel by 60% at the front, 29% to the rear, faster steering response, a quieter more efficient exhaust system plus a more comprehensive selection of off-road tyres and the new Gator represents a significant improvement.

Load capacity courtesy of the new removable side and rear panel weather resistant cargo box has also been increased from 360 to 460 litres with towing capabilities upped to 680kg. And for those who need to take their new Gator on-road, John Deere has also introduced a new range of tool carriers, dividers, front load racks and bull bars along with the option of a new full glass cab.

And for those who need to move people as well as cargo the new XUV 550 and 550S4 models offer the choice of two- or four-seater versions.

Available in early spring of 2012 with prices still to be confirmed, the multi-passenger Gators are powered by V-twin ohv air-cooled petrol engines that offer a maximum speed of 28mph and featuring the same style sealed clutch and running gear system as the 855D, CVT and all-round hydraulic disc brakes plus the option of full underbody skid protection. The new range of XUV 855D’s start at £11,578 plus VAT. For further details contact your local dealer or visit www.johndeere.co.uk
